VG-1 steel, developed by Takefu Special Steel in Japan, is a premium stainless steel favored in Japanese cutlery. With around 1.2% carbon and added chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium, VG-1 achieves a Rockwell hardness of 60–61 HRC, delivering excellent edge retention, corrosion resistance, and sharpness.
